TKZee - Coming home album review...

The trouble with having been a trend setter in music nearly a decade ago is that expectations are high and the public has a habit of wanting you to deliver the same product that you did back when you the it band. So when TKZee went into studio to record their long awaited come back album they had to satisfy their fans by keeping to their original ground breaking sound and, at the same time, make sure they sound current and don’t get lost amongst the Durban kwaito inspired hits for the festive.

In my humble opinion, I think they did an exceptional job in creating songs that capture the now as well as have a nostalgic feel to them.

As a whole, I wouldn’t describe the album as great but it does contain some wonderful songs, a major weak point that most of the songs have is a weak intro but once they get into them its some melodic and catchy phrases, the way kwaito should be. Tracks that have the old school TKZee “GUZ” feel include “Viva La Pantsula” which features members of the old TKZee family, Gwyza, Sbu and Loyiso, “Show off”, “Thatha Eezy” and the opening song “Everyday”. For their more up tempo tracks instead of just going for the popular Durban sound they impressed me and made what I can only describe as Guz-house and their 1^st single, which hasn’t been well received, is just an introduction to that. Zwai’s influence can be heard in the last two tracks (Coming home feat. Joyous celebration & Ntokozo Mbambo and Children hold on) that have a serious gospel influence in them.

Tracks that I think you should look out for are; the Jamiroquai inspired full blown kwaito joint “Bumpha nathi”, “Viva La Pantsula”, the Dlala mapantsula inspired “Show off” and the two guaranteed dance floor fillers “O S’kang tella” and my personal favorite “Dikakapa”. I actually think the lead single “: Sdudla” will grow on many people as the festive fever picks up.

I finally have a blog

So after a hell of a lot of pondering and cudgeling from well wishing friends i have succumbed to setting up my own blog place thing. I do hope i do not offend to many people during my quest to add a little bit more fun in this journey called life.

I promise i won't write anything that will change the world or make Mugabe a better man, i won't be philosophizing on why we should save the whales or keep the ANC in power. I am just about speaking out the crack of my... mouth and hope that you guys won't report me to the authorities. i will be looking forward to hear what you guys have to say about my twisted mind, look out for the 1st real blog in about 3 days.
